Foundation Program Planning For 2011-2012

Virginia Asian Foundation volunteers through its Program Committee will host several educational initiatives in the areas of domestic violence prevention, health care access for the uninsured, workforce development initiatives, and, safety education to the communities such as crime and natural disaster protection.  

 

All seminars and counseling services will be open free of charge to the community.

 

 

Community Sustainaibility

 

Our Program focus areas include the following four areas of Community Sustainability:

 

 

1. Access to Health Care

Circulation of monthly news, events, initiatives, solutions, resources, and /or information to persons   without health insurance by collaborating with the Virginia Department of Health and local and statewide health care agencies. (12 issues)

Participation at the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Public Health and other Health related Departments ‘ Diversity Committee and acts as a channel of resources and information in the area of diversity health awareness. (8 meetings annually)

Organization and coordination efforts of a volunteer-run monthly Care A Van outreach events (12 events a year) to educate hard to reach communities about critical health issues such as cancers prevention

Consultancy role to the Commonwealth of Virginia on Asian Community Health Issues at an advisory role. (on-going basis year round)

 

 

2. Domestic Violence Prevention and Victims Support

Daily referrals of individual adult and youth to supportive counseling and case management, domestic violence prevention support groups, and parenting counseling  (on going individual counseling and referrals services

Annual participation in various volunteer programs providing bilingual court interpretations / advocacy/accompaniment ( monthly city coalition meetings – 12 meetings)

Outreach to the community by offering educational sessions about domestic violence to businesses, organizations, churches and community groups  (6 outreach events annually – 6 co-sponsored seminars annually

 

3. Workforce Development

Angels of Hope - A Special Project

  • Financial Literacy and Planning (3 events annually)
  • Stress management, problem solving, effective communication/team building skills,  and balancing a work life (3 events annually)
  • Employability development skills (3 sessions annually)
  • Small Business Start Up classes ( 3 sessions annually)
  • Interviewing, Job Hunting, Career Exploration, Dress For Success, and Resumes Writing Classes (3 sessions annually)

 

 

4. Safety Protection and Disasters Prevention Education

 

In collaboration with the ARC - American Red Cross/ Richmond Chapter and its partners, the various local police departmnents, Virginia Asian Foundation will host education seminars, workshops, and forums to promote personal safety protection and crime and natural disaster prevention. ( 4 events annually)
